Reykjavík City Library hosts literary walking tours in downtown Reykjavík every Thursday in July and August. Icelandic literature, from the Saga period to newly published books, is introduced at various stops by an actor and a literary critic. The actor performs bits from novels, short stories and plays, as well a reciting poetry, and the critic tells about the authors and the connection of text and place.
This walk suits everyone, as it is at an easy pace. It is a fun way to get to know Icelandic literature with a bit of history mixed in. The program takes about an hour and a half.
Reykjavík Literally is free of charge and no booking is needed. Just show up at Reykjavík City Library in Tryggvagata 15, by the old harbour, at 5 P.M. on Thursdays in July and August.
The walk can also be booked for groups at other times throughout the year for a nominal fee.
