The Main Library moved to Tryggvagata 15 on August 18, 2000 and shares premises there with Reykjavík Municipal Archives and Reykjavík Museum of Photography.
It houses a very diverse collection of some 125,000 volumes. These include virtually all books that have been published in Icelandic, as well as a good selection of books in other languages.
Periodicals, videos, audio books, language courses and multimedia CDs are also lent out. The library has a good reference section and has international newspapers in the café area on the first floor.
The music and video department is situated on the fifth floor.
On the Reykjavík square on the first floor guests can get information about activities and cultural events in and around Reykjavík.

Library users have access to the Internet, multimedia and word processing. Users are charged for computer use according to the tariff.
