The City Library’s Poetry Slam has become an annual event. The contest takes place at the main library during Reykjavik Museum Night in February. The slam is for young people and each year there is a special theme. Examples of past themes are horror, independence and thrill.

We define slam as a performance of original poetry or short prose text, where the performance is of no less importance then the text itself. Thus, a conventional reading of a poem is not a valid act. The participants can perform their work with music, visual art or theatre if they want to, or just recite the text in a vivid or theatrical way. Both groups (up to 5 members in a group) and individuals can take part.

Examples:
Music
Rap
Sound effects
Visual aids (video/slide-show)
Theatrical performance or dance
Recital

Guidelines for Participants (and Judges):
Each act can take max 5 minutes
The text must be in Icelandic
The text cannot be rude or aimed against a certain individual or group
Text 40%, performance 60%
Simple technical matters (no more than one projector, simple props that people can easily carry with them on stage)
Maximum group size: 5 people
