POSTONED Phygital library – A hybrid place | Torgið

Þriðjudagur 18. janúar 2022

Please note that this event has been postponed until the 22nd of February.

Can we think of a democratic society without a library? Digital platforms have expanded possibilities for civic participation. New and exiting ideas find their ways more easily into decision making processes. But can the democratic process truly take place without a shared physical platform for a dialogue? We will discuss what kind of circumstances encourage understanding and connection, allow us to dream of new possibilities for a society we want to be part of. Is it behind a computer screen, is there anything there that surprises us? Maybe the libraries are exactly the right places to develope into a hybrid local places that combine the physical and digital sphere in one phygital place?

We invite to an open conversation at the library. What influences our conversations, discussions and understandings of issues, circumstances and diverse social standings of different members of our society. The Citizens foundation show us how they have developed digital democratic platforms like Betri Reykjavík og Hverfið mitt, who have inspired similar platforms in over 25 different states. The association has gathered different examples of project, which can be accessed here.

We will also touch upon the importance of the local level. What are the needs of local communities and how do different surroundings influence the implementation of initiatives. Understanding the exclusive natures of each society is important. But how can we gain that understanding and gain a sense of belonging to the society we live in?

The conversation is open and all are encouraged to participate.
